Not long ago I picked up The Body Shop Matte Clay Skin Clarifying Foundation as I had seen some good reviews on it and thought I’d give it a whirl. I have previously tried their Fresh Nude Foundation and didn’t get on well with it, I found it oxidised and broke up around my t-zone throughout the day. So I was hoping this one would more suitable for my skin!
I have the shade Kaili Azalea 012, there are 10 shades in the range currently. The Matte Clay Skin Clarifying Foundation is described on Thebodyshop.com as:
Combat skin imperfections throughout the day with our NEW 100% vegan Matte Clay Foundation. This lightweight foundation is enriched with skin-clearing tea tree and leaves a breathable, yet full-coverage matte finish. It’s also resistant to water and sweat. Apply with our multi-tasking complexion blender for a flawless application.
- Full-coverage, matte finish
- Enriched with powerful tea tree oil
- Promotes clearer looking skin
- Oil absorbing properties
- Ideal for any skin type
- Breathable 24-hour coverage
To apply the foundation I used my Real Techniques foundation brush, and it blended nicely onto my skin. It wasn’t a thick formula and the shade matched my skin really well. I then applied the rest of my makeup and continued on with my day.
I didn’t touch up my makeup throughout my day, after 4 hours wear I started to notice the foundation breaking up around my nose and chin. After 8 hours the foundation had pretty much disappeared from my nose, it was a little patchy on my chin and my forehead just looked so dry.
For a matte foundation, that is supposedly not all skin types I am surprised at how it reacted around my t-zone. It broke up and clung to dry patches that I didn’t even know I had. Whereas on my cheeks it looked so nice, hadn’t broken up or gone patchy. This was the only new product I tried on my skin that day, and it just didn’t sit well on my skin. I don’t think my moisturiser had anything to do with it as I use it with other foundations and they apply fine.
Overall I am not a fan of this foundation! It hasn’t worked out for me. I so wanted to like this foundation as I was drawn to the claims, especially promoting clearer skin as it contains tea tree.
