Beauty Favourites 2016 vs 2019

Some makeup trends come and go, others stick around and as the year is coming to a close I wanted to share my beauty favourites, but I’ve added a twist – comparing the products I loved in 2016 to the ones I have been loving this year! In 2016, my makeup collection definitely wasn’t what it is now! I really used to have one of everything and that was pretty much it! The question is, will any products have stuck around..?

Starting with the 2016 favourite when it came to mascara, Seventeen Falsifeye mascara was my absolute fave! Unfortunately Seventeen are no longer available to buy and so after trying many mascaras, my favourite is the Urban Decay Perversion mascara! It does everything I want it to and I haven’t found one that rivals it.

Next up is brows, 2016 saw the rise of the brow pencils and my favourite was Soap & GloryArchery 2-in-1 Brow Sculpting & Setting Gel. I loved the Soap & Glory range for a while to be honest I still do. But I have since been enjoying using brow pomades, my favourite being the NYX Tame and Frame Brow Pomade.

When it came to blush I was a novice and didn’t really use it a lot, the only one I had was from Sleek in Rose Gold. Now however I can’t do my makeup without a swipe of blush, my favourite being the Smashbox L.A Lights Blush Palette in Malibu Berry. There are 3 shades in the palette that are prefect for mixing together or used alone, giving the perfect rosy cheek!

I also only had one bronzer in 2016 and that was Makeup Geek Contour Pan in Bad Habit. I no longer have it, and nor is it available any more. I now love to use the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette or for more of an everyday look I use The Body Shop Honey Bronzer.

Onto highlighter and unsurprisingly I still love the Sleek Solstice Highlight palette just as much now as I did in 2016! It gives off such a blinding highlight! I also still love the Becca Highlighters, except now I use the shade Moonstone rather than Champagne Pop. Another highlight favourite this year for me has been the Barry M Liquid Chrome Highlight, for me they are the perfect balance between not being too subtle but also not being blinding, which isn’t something I go for a lot on my cheeks now.

Another unsurprising product that I have loved since 2016 is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, I don’t think they’ll ever leave my collection! My favourite shades being Cannes, Stockholm, Rome and Morocco! I also have been loving bullet lipsticks, worthy mentions are Dose of Colours Hey Girl lipstick, TopShop Matte Lipstick in Mwah* and Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks in Bing and Screen Queen.

For eyeshadow I used to love the Makeup Geek eyeshadows, since then Makeup Geek is no longer stocked at Beauty Bay. This year I have been obsessed with the bPerfect x Stacy Marie Carnival palettes, I have both and I adore using them! I also really like the Urban Decay Naked Cherry and SoSu x Keilidh Urban Bible palette.

I also mentioned in my 2016 post how much I loved Spectrum brushes and nothing has changed since! They are still my go to brushes to use, but I also love the Urban Decay ones too!

And finally what I used to remove my makeup in 2016 was The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil, now however I love to use the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. It does the perfect job of removing all my makeup!

You may have noticed that I haven’t mentioned any foundations or concealers, that’s because back in 2016 I really didn’t have a favourite and yet to find ones I really liked. Luckily for me that’s changed! My favourite concealer has got to be the Wet n Wild Photo Focus concealer! It just does the job and doesn’t crease! As for foundations I can’t narrow it down to just one, so here’s three: Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Foundation, Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation and Urban Decay Stay Naked. They all make my skin look flawless, each with a different coverage too!

It’s crazy to think how much not only my makeup collection but also how I apply my makeup has changed within the last few years. I was unsure how to layout this blog post as I’ve never done anything like it I don’t think! I can’t believe how different I look since 2016! Let me know what you think in the comments below! Also I’d love to hear what products you have been loving this year, makeup, skincare or anything else let me know in the comments below!
